[ARCHIVED] City of Norfolk Office Closures in Observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day

NORFOLK, Va. – The City of Norfolk’s government offices, including libraries, The Slover, recreation centers and Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC) will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 25 as well as Jan. 1. The closures include the offices of the Commissioner of Revenue and the City Treasurer. 

Norfolk Courthouse, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 26 and will resume operations on Dec. 27. They will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, reopening on Jan 2.  

Revised Christmas and New Year’s Day Trash and Recycling Collection schedule: 

  • Trash and recycling will be collected as scheduled on Dec. 24 and Dec. 26. Bulk waste pickup requests for Dec. 24 and Dec. 26 must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Dec. 20.
  • Trash and recycling for Dec. 25 will be collected on Dec. 28. Bulk waste pickup requests must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Dec. 27.
  • Trash and recycling will be collected as scheduled on Dec. 31.
  • Trash and recycling for Jan. 1 will be collected on Jan. 4. Bulk waste pickup requests must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Jan. 3.
  • Bulk waste pickup requests for Jan. 2must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Request bulk pickups anytime on the MyNorfolk mobile app or the online portal or call Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ready to toss your tree? Place natural or artificial trees, with decorations removed, at the curb on your regular trash collection day. No bulk pickup requests are needed to dispose of holiday trees through Jan. 31.

The SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. No residential Household Hazardous Waste or E-Waste disposal on Dec. 24.

Revised Quarterly Street Sweeping schedule: 

  • Dec. 24 quarterly street sweeping will be made up on Jan. 4.
  • Dec. 25 quarterly street sweeping will be made up on Dec. 30.
  • Jan. 1 quarterly street sweeping will be made up on Jan 6.
